Chicago Bears head coach shuts down trade rumors for a running back

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Chicago Bears are making a change at left tackle.

The biggest weakness of the Chicago Bears’ offense this season has been the running game. D’Andre Swift has struggled tremendously, Kyle Monangai hasn’t gotten much opportunities, and Roschon Johnson has barely seen the field.

Swift has struggled to create openings and has yet to be productive this season. The starting running back for the Bears has only 2 rushing touchdowns and 187 yards through 4 games.

The best idea for the Chicago Bears would be to potentially trade for a veteran running back to complement Swift and elevate the rushing game. However, Ben Johnson seems to have ruled that out.

The Bears returned to Halas Hall on Tuesday, following their bye week to prepare for Monday night’s huge game against the Washington Commanders.

During Tuesday’s media session, Ben Johnson seemed to rule out any idea of adding a new running back to the Bears’ roster. Johnson told the media that the running backs will be fine. He also mentioned that it’s not just the running backs that are at fault for the struggles this season.

Via CHGO on X:

“Our guys are going to be fine. It’s not always the runners — it’s everybody. It’s the quarterback carrying out his fake, it’s the receivers blocking down the field, the tight ends doing their job and same thing with the offensive line.”

The Chicago Bears need to get the run game going

In order for Johnson’s offense to keep firing, the run game needs to be more consistent. Swift has clearly struggled to create lanes and get open while running. The offensive line has still been a disappointment with blocking the run as well. Numerous times the Bears have shot themselves in the foot with run plays being blown up right away.

This is clearly one of the biggest areas the team needs to improve on in order to make a run for the playoffs this season. In today’s NFL, you cannot be a one dimensional football team. The Bears have to figure out a way to get the run game more consistent going into Week 6.
