Officials under fire for questionable calls in Chicago Bears-Commanders game

The Chicago Bears came out of their bye hot against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football” at Northwest Stadium. The Bears took an early 13-0 lead in the first half, but penalties and miscues (via the offensive line and blown coverages on defense) caught up.
In the second half, the Commanders overtook the Bears to take a 17-16.
Washington had considerable help in taking the lead. What would have been a touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to Rome Odunze was nullified by a curious illegal formation penalty on left tackle Theo Benedet.
Benedet appeared to have his helmet beyond the backside of center Drew Dalman, but officials threw the flag anyway, forcing a field goal attempt later in the drive.

In the fourth quarter, safety Jaquon Brisker was called for unnecessary roughness for his hit on Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Brisker appeared to hit Daniels before he threw the ball.
Bears fans on social media were fed up with the officiating on Monday night.

“Phantom 3rd and long facemask to extend the drive ends in Commanders 7 • Phantom illegal formation calls back Bears 7 • Blatant pick play missed on 4th down leads to Commanders 7,” posted another.
“Caleb Williams throws a perfect ball for a TD and the refs call it back on a questionable call. The Bears tax is so real smh,” argued another.
“I’m convinced that these refs took Washington tonight. That illegal formation was garbage,” posted another.
