OTL: Anxiously Awaiting Our First Post-Bye Injury Report
Last week, I wrote all about how GM Eric DeCosta and company can get things rolling in the right direction. This week, I have a few absolute blockbuster moves to report:
We have signed WR Colton Dowell to the practice squad.https://t.co/xNqxWDMNS8
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) October 21, 2025
#Ravens working out Efe Obada, David Olajiga and Tommy Akingbesote today, per a league source @KPRC2

We have signed defensive tackle David Olajiga to the Practice Squad.https://t.co/olRBp4gUSE
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) October 21, 2025
I hope the sarcasm was clear. There’s obviously still time before the NFL trade deadline hits, though, and maybe DeCosta’s plan is to see how things go against Chicago (and maybe Miami) before making any drastic changes.
The beginning of a HISTORIC run starts this Sunday

Still, Ravens fans are frustrated:
We are 6 days away from another game and the Ravens still only have 3 OLBs

Baltimore has clear holes along both trenches, as well as other seemingly intangible problems. The good news is, while Charm City waits for a trade (which realistically could happen at any moment), the Ravens will be returning a number of starters this week:

Roquan Smith (hamstring) said he believes he’ll play Sunday.

— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) October 20, 2025
Meanwhile, though both practice squad moves seem to be those typically meant to build out the fringe of the roster – at best – the Ravens have been eyeing a veteran pass rusher:
Assuming the #Ravens will make a splash before the deadline, Lawson would be a smart depth add in the meantime. ‘24 tape still shows quick get off, violent hands, and the ability to layer moves. That plays right away in a rotational role. https://t.co/93meYEAF9N
— Chris Cooper (@ChrisCooper_NFL) October 20, 2025
As Cooper notes, Lawson may not move the needle but could be a necessary body on a D-Line that’s been riddled with injuries. But regardless of what moves happen over the next few weeks, the Ravens have to take things one game at a time, winning along the way.
The news of the week surrounded Baltimore’s coaching staff, with The Baltimore Sun reporting that any sort of internal turmoil is focused on OC Todd Monken, not HC John Harbaugh or DC Zach Orr. While most fans speculate that this story was planted (and on the whole I would agree), I do want to play devil’s advocate for a moment.
First and foremost, I think it’s entirely possible that the sentiment is largely impacted by the offense’s performance without QB Lamar Jackson:

Needless to say, it’s critical that Jackson returns ASAP given the hole the team’s dug for itself.
Tomorrow will tell us if Lamar Jackson will play on Sunday

On top of the offensive unit’s issues without Jackson, players noted that it hasn’t been set up for success. The analysis below highlights that, with the Ravens falling in the “Bad” category of early down success. We know how important it is to stay ahead of the sticks, but Monken’s group hasn’t done that:

— Timo Riske (@PFF_Moo) October 21, 2025
Of course, some of that comes down to the players. That said, Baltimore’s EPA per drive on offense is lower, despite being higher in terms of splash plays:

Most big plays thru Week 7: pic.twitter.com/r63maUwr1U
— Marcus Mosher (@Marcus_Mosher) October 21, 2025
To me, this means Monken and the Ravens offense are capable of making big plays, but aren’t able to scheme up the more mundane ones when the game calls for it. Looking at the defensive side of the ball, that’s how we’re being beat – over the middle and short.
Either way, the offense hasn’t been consistently efficient despite putting up points when Jackson is available. When you look at the state of the entire team, though, these issues pale in comparison to others:
Wait, you can do that? https://t.co/PAcBLvYFZr

According to the Baltimore Sun, a rival assistant-coach told the journal that the Ravens defense has been playing “soft.”

It feels like an unrealistic turnaround is necessary for the Ravens to pose a threat to the Steelers or other AFC playoff contenders. And yet, John Harbaugh is supposedly safe atop the staff:
Just want to re-iterate when talking to people among league circles, NO ONE is taking the chatter that John Harbaugh will be fired post season seriously.
That could change obviously but interesting to hear perspectives outside the noise so to speak
— Samuel Njoku (@RavensTalkPod) October 21, 2025
It makes no sense to me, but what do I know? On to Chicago.
