OTL: Can EDC Reinforce Trenches at the Deadline?

The Ravens come off a game where the final score makes it look like they completely dominated, but looking under the hood tells a different story.

The Ravens now sit at 3-5, and with a cake walk schedule for the next couple of weeks, they could absolutely find themselves atop the division by Thanksgiving. However, they are nowhere near a unit that looks ready for a Super Bowl run.

While everything going on last night was a bit chaotic, the one thing I will never doubt on this team is number 8:

Lamar Jackson looked really timid in the first half, but he settled down and turned in his best performance of the year, dropping four touchdowns on the Dolphins’ Defense.

The Ravens have issues right now, but Lamar is back and we know he can mask a lot of ills.

So after a 28-6 win, exactly what “ills” am I referring to?

The two main issues, as I’m sure my fellow flock members will agree, are along both trenches. On the OL, it’s specifically the guards. On the DL…sheesh.

I’d like to focus on the second and third points made by RSR’s Cole Jackson here. The lack of talent on both lines is a systemic issue that is causing some infuriating moments. Derrick Henry can’t get anything going because he has no room to breathe, and Lamar is making these guards look better than they are with his pocket presence and escapability. As for the defense, while a silver lining is that the lack of pass rush up front is forcing some needed creativity from Zach Orr, blitzing this much just won’t be sustainable against better quarterbacks than Caleb Williams and Tua.

Unfortunately, there likely aren’t any answers on the current roster.

Ravens are gonna dump these lower level teams but it’s clear, EDC needs to make something happen along the defensive line for this team to be a legitimate threat against the real contenders.

EDC needs to have a big next couple of days for this team. While Carl Lawson could help, he has to add SOMETHING else on the DL. While the NFL trade deadline is definitely more active in recent years than it had been previously, reports indicate that teams like the Giants have taken all their top defensive front players off the trade table.

Will the New York Jets do the same with Quinnen Williams? What if the Cardinals don’t want to trade Calais Campbell? A lack of trade talent available will drive up the price on any players who actually do move. EDC has his work cut out for him.

As for the offensive line, there haven’t been many rumors of guards moving. Maybe the Titans can throw us a bone with a Kevin Zeitler reunion? Otherwise, we could be pinning our hopes on rookie Emery Jones.

This is the most critical week EDC has had in a while. He has a team trying to fight, that’s poised to make a playoff run, but which is missing key cogs to be a true contender.
