Ravens in the Black After First Consecutive Wins of 2025
Coming off two big wins over the Bears and Dolphins, the Ravens are back in the AFC North race. They could find themselves only one game out after this weekend’s games, as the Steelers are playing the Colts, arguably the best team in the NFL up to this point. Even if Pittsburgh wins that game, their schedule is daunting from here on out and these two Ravens wins have put them in an excellent position.
Stock Up
Kyle Hamilton
Since the Odafe Oweh-for-Alohi Gilman trade, the Ravens have been moving Kyle Hamilton all over the field and he is showing why he is the most versatile defensive player in the league. He is getting after the passer, disrupting the passing lanes and stopping the run. Teams now have to account for him before every snap, and it really changes the defense.
Tight Ends
Ravens tight ends were back last night. They caught three of Lamar Jackson‘s four touchdown passes and Isaiah Likely had his 2025 breakout game. Likely has been slow to get back into things after missing the first month of the season. Mark Andrews, who isn’t quite the player he once was, has been asked to block a lot more. With Pat Ricard back and Lamar now back at QB, we will see the tight ends utilized more in the passing game.
Keaton Mitchell
The Ravens elected to sit Keaton Mitchell for the first month of the season. Why, we don’t know. Was it a roster thing? Was it too much emphasis on special teams? Was he not picking up the offense? Whatever the reason was, he changed the narrative. He is now a part of the offense and return team. Are they looking to trade him? There has been some speculation about that but hopefully he stays and they continue to get the ball in his hands because he can be a game-changing talent.
Health
It’s just nice to see the team starting to get back together. It’s extremely hard to win in pro sports when you have several of your best guys all out at the same time. Obviously, no Nnamdi Madubuike hurts, and missing Tavius Robinson is a blow to the defense but overall, you have your best guys back and the team is starting to click. There is a lot of room for improvement but some of that is these guys haven’t played together this year, so they need to jell. The bye week helped and now you get a mini bye. Over the next few weeks, assuming health, I expect to see this team really start to take off.
Turnovers
It is nice to get turnovers again, isn’t it? Obviously, turnovers make a huge different in all games and the Ravens have been awful at forcing turnovers all year. While Lamar was out, they were giving the ball up to the other team too frequently. With Jackson back and assuming Derrick Henry’s early season fumble issues are behind him, the offensive turnovers should be limited and hopefully the defense can start to force their own more consistently. They forced four in these two games, so that is a good start.
Stock Down
Andrew Voorhees
You would not expect a Voorhees to struggle on Halloween, but here we are. Andrew Voorhees has been the worst graded lineman on the team this year. He has shown flashes at times, but the pass protection has been a huge problem for him overall. Run blocking has been an issue for several of the members of the offensive line as well. Will he still have a starting job when they return from the mini bye? Emery Jones is knocking on the door, and a trade is always a possibility.
Goalline Offense
Yes, the Ravens eventually punched it in last night, but it was a struggle and they had to go for it on 4th down to get it. The Ravens continue to be very predictable in goalline opportunities and the heavies aren’t getting any push. Todd Monken has to show more creativity on the goal line and be less predictable. There is no reason for this team to not be automatic from inside the five.
Cooper Rush
Signed as a free agent to be the primary backup, Cooper Rush struggled in the two games he started. He has been a very good backup in this league and he made sense. I know people say he can’t run the offense like Lamar but that’s fine. Most offenses are similar and then they install some concepts for a running QB. But Rush looked terrible and has now been demoted to inactive and emergency status in favor of Tyler Huntley, who looked far more comfortable in his start.
