Who Fell Flat In Jets Week 6 Loss to the Broncos?

Following their brutal, winless start to the season, the Jets traveled across the pond to take on the Denver Broncos this past Sunday in London. The Jets entered this game having lost their last five games to start the 2025 NFL season, and looked to get a win against Denver, finally. This was a game of two stories for the Jets. The Jets’ defense looked to get back on track in this one, finally, and held the Broncos to 13 points. The offense, on the other hand, played its worst game of the season. This allowed Denver to walk away with the 13-11 win.
The Broncos went up 13-11 with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter. This allowed the Jets’ offense more than enough time to put together a potential game-winning drive. Unfortunately for them, a comeback was not in the cards as the Jets would not be able to capitalize on their final two drives of the game. The biggest positive coming out of this one was the re-emergence of the Jets’ defense. So, who fell flat in the Jets’ Week 6 loss to the Broncos?
3. Jamien Sherwood, LB
The Jets’ defense, for the most part, had a great game. The defensive unit as a whole held the Broncos to just 13 points, and this was viewed as an overall success for just about everyone on the defensive unit. However, if there was one player who may have been able to perform just a bit better, it’s the Jets’ linebacker, Jamien Sherwood.
Sherwood finished the game with 13 tackles on six solos and seven assists, and defended one pass and even had two stuffs. However, one of the most costly plays for the Jets in this one came at the hands of Sherwood. On Denver’s 16-yard first-quarter touchdown, Sherwood stepped up to cover Darius Mims, who was a run/decoy. This left Nate Adkins free to sneak into the endzone and create a very easy touchdown for Denver.
Ultimately, this touchdown made a huge difference. The Jets’ defense, Sherwood included in that even, stepped up as a whole to hold Denver to only 13 points, so this loss solely falls on the offense. However, Sherwood being out of place for the first quarter touchdown essentially cost Gang Green the game, on defense. However, the much bigger issues lie on the other side of the ball.
2. Aaron Glenn, HC
When it was announced that Aaron Glenn was taking over the Jets’ head coaching position, fans were happy for the most part. Glenn had quite a resume, as he played an important part in the regime that turned the Detroit Lions organization around. Glenn came in with Darren Mougey, who became the new Jets’ general manager. However, to say it hasn’t worked out the way anyone has envisioned would be a massive understatement.
Glenn deserves a fair share of blame here for the Jets’ loss to Denver in London because of poor coaching decisions, lack of offensive adjustments (mainly with the offensive line), and very questionable late-game management. He failed to make any adjustments to stop Denver’s pass rush, resulting in nine sacks for the Denver defense. However, perhaps one of his biggest issues came when he chose to run out the clock instead of trying for a deep shot or a Hail Mary before halftime.
To make matters worse, on the Jets’ final drive of the game, they trailed by just two points. Glenn opted to go for it, on 4th-and-8, rather than attempt a long, but makeable kick for Nick Folk. Folk had been perfect on the day, but Glenn and the staff showed a big lack of trust in him. It would have been a 50+ yard long kick, but the Jets’ offense was abysmal yesterday. This was just the wrong call for Glenn to make, especially after Fields hadn’t been able to get anything going for him. Speaking of which…
1. Justin Fields, QB
The biggest player who fell flat in this game is none other than the quarterback, Justin Fields. To say that Fields hasn’t worked out well here in New York so far would be an understatement. This is just downright a bad offense, led by a downright bad quarterback. Fields has had many issues that contribute to the Jets losing games, including holding onto the ball for way too long. However, perhaps the worst showing of Fields yet in a Jets uniform came on Sunday against Denver across the pond.
Fields finished the game with 45 passing yards. However, his nine sacks caused him to have a -10 net yards for the entire game. Now the sacks weren’t all his fault. However, to say he was innocent of all blame would just be untrue. Field’s biggest issue has been holding onto the ball for too long, and this has allowed for several of the sacks to occur. Denver’s rushers reached him within seconds, but instead of throwing away or checking down, Fields often hesitated and turned manageable plays into major losses.
Fields also showed a big lack of accuracy and confidence. His timing and ball placement were off all game, and he missed wide-open receivers on short routes to counter Denver’s blitz. His lack of anticipation and confidence to make decisions makes the Jets’ offense stagnant and one-dimensional. Ultimately, Fields froze under pressure on the final sack of the game, sealing the loss. In short, Fields failed to lead effectively, process fast enough, or protect the football under pressure. His indecision and lack of poise directly contributed to the brutal play from the Jets’ offensive collapse and their narrow, but frustrating, loss in London.
