BOLD PREDICTIONS: How Will it Play Out? Ravens at Browns II

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Winners of three straight games, the Baltimore Ravens (4-5) face the Cleveland Browns (2-7) in a 4:25 p.m. AFC North battle at Huntington Bank Field. This marks the Ravens’ third-straight road contest (27-19 victory at Min. last Sunday & 28-6 win at Mia. on Oct. 30), while Cleveland is looking to snap a two-game skid (27-20 loss at NYJ last Sunday & 32-13 defeat at NE on Oct. 26).

Baltimore is 38-15 all time vs. the Browns, with a 27-8 record under head coach John Harbaugh that includes a 41-17 win in Week 2 this season. Under Harbaugh, the Ravens are 12-5 in Cleveland, where the Browns have won three of the past four meetings.

Between the weather and the Browns No. 2 ranked defense, this one screams “under” for those who like to wager. The game will be called many things but one of them will NOT be “a sight for sore eyes”. Instead, it will just be a sore sight.

  • Given the winds the Ravens will try to ground and pound but the leading ground gainer for the Ravens will not be Derrick Henry. Instead, it will be Keaton Mitchell who will outrush The King 64 yards to 52 including a score from 20+ yards out.
  • Lamar Jackson will throw for less than 175 yards while the Ravens total just 280 yards of offense. Lamar will hit Mark Andrews for a score from 6 yards out to set the Ravens record for receiving yards. Lamar will be picked off twice.
  • Tyler Loop will go 1 for 2 on PATs.
  • Dillon Gabriel will throw for even fewer yards than Lamar while the Browns barely crack 250 yards of offense. Gabriel, like Lamar, will throw 2 picks. Malaki Starks gets one and Roquan Smith gets the other off a pass tipped by Kyle Hamilton. Hamilton will have 3 batted balls to go with a sack. Dre’Mont Jones gets his first sack with the Ravens and Keyon Martin gets the 3rd sack on a slot corner blitz.

The game will be over by 7:15 Eastern Time. Thankfully. Ravens get their fourth straight dub.

This Cleveland Browns team is a tale of two sides of the ball. On the one hand, you have a defense that has stymied their opponents to the tune of the second-fewest total yards allowed. On the other hand, you have an offense that has been abysmal, posting bottom-five production in nearly every category. With Cleveland’s struggles to move the ball, it’s no wonder they’re still 15th in points allowed, as their opponents have been gifted opportunities on short fields. We’ll see if Baltimore can take advantage this week.

— It seems like eons ago that the Ravens faced down a Joe Flacco-led Browns offense in Baltimore in Week 2. We’ve seen Flacco continue to sling it elsewhere, while the Browns have had to make a QB change and now start Dillon Gabriel under center. For the second time in two weeks, the Ravens defense will make a young QB look shaky, forcing multiple turnovers. This week, I’ll say it’s an interception for Chidobe Awuzie and a strip sack recovery by Mike Green.

— Unfortunately, the turnovers aren’t exclusive to Cleveland’s offense. The pass protection continues to struggle against a strong Cleveland front, and Myles Garrett records a sack and multiple pressures, one of which leads to a Cleveland possession in Baltimore territory.

— With Rashod Bateman out, we see a continued emphasis on utilizing the tight ends in the short passing game. However, the game-breaker comes early in the second half as Cleveland’s defense continues to play down low, and Lamar calls his shot with a deep rainbow of a pass to Tez Walker, who draws back into the lineup and makes the most of it with a 30+ yard TD catch.

It’ll be ugly in the early going, and Cleveland is going to play like a team with nothing to lose hoping to stop the Ravens from closing in on the division lead. I think Baltimore can get it done, though.

Every week right now is the “biggest game of the year” and this game is no different. To me, this is the hardest game they have had since the current winning streak started.

The Ravens haven’t swept the Browns with Kevin Stefanski as the coach. They are playing their final road game of three in a row. They are coming off a three-game win streak and while they aren’t likely looking ahead to the Jets, they could be looking ahead to being home for three straight games.

On top of that, they are playing a team with a good RB and, more importantly, a very good defense that gave them issues in Week 2.

I would expect multiple sacks from Garrett and pressure on Lamar often. We have to hope he doesn’t take any big hits especially since he sat out of practice Wednesday because of a sore knee.

The game plan has to be to run it a lot and try to slow down the pass rush. Of course, Cleveland is good vs the rush, so it won’t be easy.

Dillon Gabriel, has basically been the worst QB in the NFL this year, so that’s where the Ravens need to cook. Dominate the game on defense, get some turnovers, protect the ball and end drives with a kick.

I expect a quick passing game like last week.

This will not be an easy game to win. The Baltimore Ravens under Lamar Jackson have never swept the Browns in a season. Ironically, the time when they need to sweep them comes in a year when they can’t afford to lose another game for the rest of the season. When the Ravens do lose to the Browns, it is usually due to some BS, so expect some turnovers in this game.

— The Ravens defense forces three turnovers from Gabriel and continues their hot streak.

— The offense really struggles to contain Myles Garrett, and the browns’ Defense forces some turnovers as well

This is not going to be a clean game. The offensive line is just not built for that against this pass rush, so it is going to come down to who makes the fewer turnovers, and in that sense the Ravens do win out and manage to scrape and keep their season alive.

No team in the NFL is quite as imbalanced as the Cleveland Browns. Okay, maybe the Cincinnati Bengals, but they’re in reverse.  We’ll get to that team later.

The key to this game is much like the Vikings game: create turnovers and short fields via the defense and special teams.  Don’t try to do too much on offense and take what the Browns give you.  Score TDs in the red zone if you can.  You shouldn’t have to put up too many points to beat this team.

The Browns are probably going to lean on their inside run game quite a bit with Quinshon JudkinsJack Conklin is their best OT and he’s having the worst season of his career.  The only OL with a positive pass blocking grade on the entire team is G Joel Bitonio.  Their QB is a tiny rookie with poor accuracy who will be playing in windy conditions.  I do think we’ll be seeing Shedeur Sanders getting a few snaps eventually, but it’ll be too late.  The Ravens will keep their short passing game going and grind out another win.  They must.

I think this game will be an ugly, low-scoring affair.  The Browns defense is great, and the Ravens offensive line is not good.  Add in the fact that Lamar Jackson is clearly not close to 100% and that makes for a long day for the Ravens offense.  Fortunately for the Ravens, the Browns offense is pathetic, and the Ravens defense has been playing a lot better.  Here are my predictions for the game:

— Ravens defense forces 3 turnovers and scores a touchdown.

— The Ravens defense comes up big and pitches a shutout!

— Lamar is sacked 5 times

— The Ravens rush for under 100 yards, pass for under 200, and manage just 1 offensive touchdown.
