Chicago Bears see Ravens All-Pro given massive fine for hit on Olamide Zaccheaus

Chicago Bears, Olamide Zaccheaus

The Chicago Bears are hoping to get back on the winning track in Week Nine as they take on the Cincinnati Bengals. At 4-3, the Bears are hoping to maintain pace or gain ground in the competitive NFC North, while the 3-5 Bengals are trying to tread water until their franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow, returns from injury.

It is the second consecutive road game that Chicago is playing against an AFC North opponent following their 30-16 loss against the Baltimore Ravens last week. That game, which was frustrating for the Bears in many aspects, also featured Chicago wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus suffering an illegal blow to his helmet.

Midway through the fourth quarter, with Chicago trailing 23-13, Ravens All-Pro Marlon Humphrey delivered a hit to Zaccheaus following a crucial catch. Humphrey was flagged for hitting Zaccheaus in the facemask with the crown of his own helmet. Astonishingly, Zaccheaus held onto the ball to complete the reception despite such a brutal hit.

On Saturday, it was reported that the NFL fined Humphrey $46,371 for the hit:

It was the second-largest fine handed out by the NFL this week, who was fined $1 more than Humphrey for his hip-drop tackle on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Fant.

The Ravens were also fined $100,000 by the NFL for how they handled Lamar Jackson’s injury designation prior to the game against Chicago.

Zaccheaus, who is playing his first season with the Bears, has 25 catches for 185 yards this season. He previously spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, one with the Philadelphia Eagles, and spent last year with the Washington Commanders.

He was one of five Bears wide receivers on the injury report this week (knee), but is expected to be active against the Bengals.
