Chicago Bulls labeled buyers for trade deadline

Chicago Bulls Ayo Dosunmu

The Chicago Bulls have been pretty mediocre the last few years, but they often held on to players they maybe should’ve traded. Lately, it seems like they’re learning from that. Regardless, in 2025-26, they appear to finally be good enough to add talent and really go all-in with the Eastern Conference pretty open. To do that, they’ll need to use some of their assets, and fortunately, they have some solid ones to play with.

The Chicago Bulls are surprisingly good this season, and they’ve yet to see Coby White on the court. All signs point to them being a legit contender in the East. This means they should be interested in adding at the deadline rather than subtracting. That’s what Bleacher Report insider Dan Favale believes. He also believes that the three best assets they have to toy with are:

  • 2027 first-round pick (or a future first-rounder)
  • Ayo Dosunmu
  • Noa Essengue

“One of the NBA’s biggest early-season surprises used to have ‘Seller who won’t sell’ written all over them. Chicago is now intriguing enough to view itself as a buyer. Whether that’s the right call is debatable. (It’s not.),” Favale wrote.

“Any Bulls first-rounder that conveys after this year is catnip to other sellers. The same goes for Dosunmu, a pesky defender who has three-point touch and some downhill fuel on offense. If his contract wasn’t expiring, he’d be the equivalent of a first-rounder,” Favale continued. He also noted that Kevin Huerter could be a good asset instead of the rookie Essengue.

“Essengue was just drafted at No. 12 and gives off an air of a more reckless Giannis Antetokounmpo before he had grown-adult muscle definition. He wins,” the analyst concluded. He also noted that Coby White, despite having a huge contract decision coming up, doesn’t work. If the Bulls are buying, they’re not going to move on from their best scorer and someone who still could be a part of the future. That leaves other players, like Huerter, as an option. Essengue is highly unlikely to be moved so close to when the Bulls first drafted him.
