Yes, a relatively big spread at this point and time, but it helps us get the goal posts somewhere between $100 million and $120 million over the term of the deal,” said NHL insider Frank Seravalli.

He added that Chicago should have no problem handling such a massive cap hit:

“I think the Chicago Blackhawks are going to be relatively comfortable knowing the salary cap is increasing in a significant way.”

That’s a key detail. The NHL cap is expected to jump aggressively over the next several seasons, giving Chicago flexibility to pay Bedard superstar money while still building around him.
