Former Chicago Cubs World Series pitcher calls it a career after 12 seasons
Major League Baseball, the Chicago Cubs, and the Los Angeles Angels can thank right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks for his service to the game, as the 35-year-old decided to call it a career, according to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Hendricks was a former 39th draft pick of the Angels in the 2008 MLB Draft out of Dartmouth College and spent 12 seasons in the big leagues. In his final season he went 8-10 with a 4.76 ERA in 31 starts (164.2 innings).
Hendricks was nicknamed “The Professor” due to his low velocity fastball and ability to pair his changeup off it. Hendricks showed that players could still pitch in the big leagues without having a 99-mph fastball.

In his tenure with the Cubs (2014-24), Hendricks went 97-81 with a 3.68 ERA (34th in franchise history) in 276 games (270 starts) and struck out 1,259 (seventh all-time) in 1580.1 innings.
Hendricks’ best season came during the Cubs’ 2016 World Series Championship season, where he went 16-8 with a 2.13 ERA (led MLB and won him the ERA title) and struck out 170 batters in 190.0 innings.
Despite never appearing or getting named to an All-Star team, Hendricks finished in the top 10 for the Cy Young Award twice (third in 2016 and ninth in 2020), and finished seventh for the Rookie of the Year Award in 2014.
