The Ben Johnson effect continues as the Chicago Bears offense surges upward
It hasn’t been perfect for the Chicago Bears offense, but it’s way better than anything we have seen in a very long time. The Ben Johnson effect is showing in Chicago.

During Sunday’s chaotic of a win against the Bengals, the Bears had a total of 576 yards on offense. According to Brad Biggs, it was the sixth most in franchise history and the most since 1980.
The Bears’ head coach called some of the most creative plays I’ve ever seen during Sunday’s win. Quarterback Caleb Williams even caught for a touchdown from DJ Moore and had another reception for 22 yards on a trick play throw from backup quarterback Tyson Bagent.
The Bears’ run game has continued to dominate. Even without D’Andre Swift, the team was able to rush for an insane 283 yards, 176 of those yards was from seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai.
Ben Johnson has done an incredible job turning the Chicago Bears offense around

More news: Chicago Bears star sends provocative message ahead of Bengals game
After an abysmal performance against the Baltimore Ravens, the Bears’ offense was able to come up with a miracle and win a thriller over the Cincinnati Bengals.
It still wasn’t perfect. The offensive line, particularly Theo Benedet struggled badly. Rome Odunze had zero receptions. The team also shot themselves in the foot with some bad penalties.
However, when the offense delivered when they needed it the most. Williams had a great bounce-back game, throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns. DJ Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus were finally able to get going and came in clutch when needed. We also finally saw a break through performance from Colston Loveland who caught two touchdowns including the incredible game winner.
If this is any other Bears team with a previous coaching staff, there is no doubt they lose that game. Ben Johnson proved once again that he is the right coach for this franchise.
The Chicago Bears’ offense has jumped into the top ten for multiple categories

The Bears’ offense has continued to slowly surge up in the NFL. They now rank in the top 10 in multiple important categories.
In a post via X from Bears Film Room’s Dave, the Bears rank third in the NFL in rushing yards with 1,155 yards. They also rank fourth in the whole league in yards per game and seventh in total yards on the season.
Bears offensive ranks through Week 9:
1,155 rushing yards (3rd in NFL)
378.4 yards per game (3rd)
26.9 points per game (6th)
3,027 total yards (7th)
1,872 passing yards (10th)

They also now rank 10th in the NFL in total passing yards and sixth in points per game. Williams is now back on pace to be the first Bears quarterback to ever throw for 4,000 yards in a season.
After watching so many seasons of terrible Bears offenses, this is just so great to see. If they can clean up the dumb penalties and fixable mistakes, the potential will be even higher.
Johnson and the Bears will look to move their record to 6-3 next week at home against the New York Giants. After 8 games, it looks like the team could be contending for the playoffs this season.
