Brewers’ Pat Murphy throws shade at Cubs in brutal insult to injury
The Chicago Cubs not only lost out on the NL Central to the Milwaukee Brewers, but they also fell to the Brewers in four games in the NLDS.
On paper, the Cubs looked like the superior team heading into the season, but things just did not work out that way for Chicago. Milwaukee was then stomped by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, and it’s hard to imagine that the Cubbies would have beaten the Dodgers anyway, but losing to a division rival still stings.
To make matters worse, Brewers manager Pat Murphy just fired a shot at the Cubs, hearkening back to when Chicago complained that Milwaukee was manipulating its roof to shade its dugout during that playoff series.
When asked by reporters what he would change about the game of baseball if he became MLB commissioner for a day, Murphy couldn’t help but throw shade at the Cubs.
“Shadows? Eliminate shadows,” Murphy said.
Can the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers next season?

The Cubs, by all accounts, should be better than the Brewers. They play in a much larger market and should (key word: should) be willing to spend more money to ensure that their roster is championship-caliber.
Of course, Chicago hasn’t exactly done that in recent years.
There was a time when the Cubs used to spend with the best of them, and it was a big reason why they were able to capture a World Series title in 2016. Yes, much of their talent was homegrown that season, but they also made sure to make significant additions — like Jon Lester, for example — when need be.
Fast forward to now, and things are vastly different.
Chicago was mostly silent at the trade deadline this past summer, which absolutely sabotaged the team in the long run. The Cubs have also been rather quiet in free agency this winter, and it doesn’t even look like they’ll have a chance to re-sign Kyle Tucker.
Perhaps Chicago will surprise everyone and land Alex Bregman, but if the Cubs did a whole lot of nothing this winter, would anyone really be surprised?
