“He shoots the gap, he’s there”: Billy Donovan praises Tre Jones “disruptive” presence in Bulls win over Cavs
On Wednesday, the Chicago Bulls picked up a much-needed 127-111 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on a night that put Josh Giddey in rare company alongside Michael Jordan. Giddey delivered his sixth career triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, but he was not the only Bull to earn praise.
After the game, head coach Billy Donovan singled out Tre Jones, applauding his impact as a “disruptive” force, especially on the defensive end where his activity and timely steals helped shift momentum.

“He’s disruptive,” remarked the Bulls head coach. “I think the thing with him with the steals is he picks them up earlier before they happen. He shoots the gap, he’s there. He’s the one guy for us that shoots the gap and generate some steals.”
A complete team performance for Tre Jones and the Bulls
Jones put together a well-rounded performance, finishing with 11 points, 11 assists, and three steals. He is currently averaging roughly two steals per game.
The win moves the Bulls to 11-15. They travel back to Cleveland on Thursday for the rubber match, then visit the Atlanta Hawks on December 23, before returning home to face the Philadelphia 76ers on December 26.
Alongside Jones and Giddey, other Bulls players made strong contributions. Coby White added 25 points and five rebounds, Bulls center Nikola Vucevic posted 20 points with nine rebounds, and Isaac Okoro scored 12 points against his former team.
Kevin Huerter contributed 11 points, Zach Collins added 10 points, and Matas Buzelis chipped in 9 points.
Over the summer, the Bulls secured Tre Jones on a three-year $24 million deal. Before joining Chicago, he played for the San Antonio Spurs. Jones was brought in to strengthen the Bulls’ defense, which has consistently faced challenges. Known for his relentless on-ball pressure and competitive grit, he immediately adds toughness and intensity to the backcourt.
