Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman acting ‘unusual’ amid bowl game rejection, NFL links
On Sunday, the College Football Playoff selection committee made a bold statement to leave Notre Dame at the alter of the final bracket.
More News: Notre Dame rejects bowl game to snub ESPN
The Fighting Irish spurned ESPN, ACC and the CFP committee in return, rejecting the opportunity to play against BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against BYU and give Disney money in the process via a large ND viewership.
Amid the Irish’s enormous middle finger to the college football world, the locker room appears shaken by missing the CFP.
Notre Dame’s head coach was acting unusual

More News: Evidence of SEC officials keeping Notre Dame out of CFP goes viral
Per ESPN’s Jen Lada, Irish athletic director Pete Bevacqua suggested Freeman was acting unusual after learning ND would not compete in the CFP.
“Usually (Freeman) has answers or reasons for why these things happen,” Lada said. “He has none & that was unusual. He said he has no answers. It doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t add up why ND is not in this playoff field.”

Players and staff were hanging their heads while walking around the facility.
It’s fair to wonder whether Freeman intends to stay in fight another season with Notre Dame amid its fight with the ACC, ESPN and CFP committee.
While the Irish reportedly have a memorandum of understanding that next season they’ll be issued a CFP spot if they’re ranked in the top 12, there’s no guarantee the committee won’t drop the program over bias and spite.
Marcus Freeman to the NFL?

In recent weeks, Freeman has been linked to NFL teams like the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, that might be refreshing while he’s at a program that doesn’t intend to join a conference to better its chances to get in the good graces of ESPN.
As Brad Powers notes, the CFP committee’s decision could cause Freeman to rethink his future with ND.
“One of the worst days in the history of Notre Dame football,” Powers posted on X. “Will be future ramifications. Marcus Freeman leaving. Joining a conference.”
Of course, the Irish and Freeman could take another path, choosing to play every opponent on its schedule in 2026 the way they did against (SEC program) Arkansas and (ACC program) Syracuse.
