OTL: Delta Between Local & National Views on Harbaugh Never Wider
It sure is crazy how much can change in a year:
Throwback to last Christmas

Just 12 months ago (essentially to the day), Ravens fans had one thing on their mind – a Super Bowl win. Now, Ravens fans have a much rarer thing on their mind – a Browns win.
All jokes aside, I found myself watching Sunday night’s matchup with the Patriots unsurprised. First, I was unsurprised that Derrick Henry’s fumble completely derailed a hot start. Next, I was unsurprised that Baltimore rebuilt its stranglehold over New England by dominating in the run game. Finally, I was unsurprised that the Ravens gave up yet another two-score lead in the 4th quarter.
Yet again, Baltimore is at a crossroads. I don’t just mean this season, either. When I say, ‘yet again,’ I mean it as a regular occurrence of the last decade. Frustration bubbled up in QB Lamar Jackson’s rookie season. It’s reared its head again across each of Baltimore’s playoff collapses. More consistently, it’s become a staple of the 2025 team’s season.
Despite that, many in the media seem shockingly certain that Owner Steve Bisciotti will stay the course heading into 2026.

I don’t see that mean Baltimore Ravens defense right now” ~ @BruceArians #PMSLive https://t.co/ZQFjAaNfEY pic.twitter.com/xameByTm68

Meanwhile, others (especially those more local) are torn:
BREAKING: #Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is the co-FAVORITE to be the next COACH FIRED, per @Polymarket.
Despite having 2x MVP Lamar Jackson, Harbaugh has struggled in the playoffs.
Baltimore fans have been calling for the team to fire Harbaugh for the last couple of years. pic.twitter.com/TaDTyWXTLY

This is how I see it too. There are a number of similarities to that 2007 Billick-led season. That team was also favored by many to go to & win the SB. Poor discipline, myriad mistakes.
I can’t imagine the home record being 3-6 is something Bisciotti takes lightly. #Ravens https://t.co/Xn4IiQkQwL

Personally, I tend to agree with those closest to the scene of the crime in thinking this is an inflection point at which Bisciotti needs to act. We saw it two years ago when Baltimore lost to Kansas City and let the hottest young coach in the league walk in Mike MacDonald. Without a doubt, you could argue that being conservative was wrong. Hopefully that was a learning experience.
Needless to say, I have no knowledge of what it’s like to run an NFL team. That said, the tropes of a failing team and necessary change are there:
This game in a nutshell is who the Ravens have been in recent seasons at the biggest moments. They’ve come up small. Offense makes mistakes at the worst times, usually by the top players. Defensive can’t get stops. Curious coaching decision always a part of it.
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) December 22, 2025
Boy the minute one thing goes south, it all goes south for the Ravens. Fumble leads to an NE touchdown drive, which leads to Hopkins dropping and easy one and Lamar/Bateman not on the same page on third down. Three and out.
— Noah Trister (@noahtrister) December 22, 2025
Cris Collinsworth: “Do you think the Patriots have to send a thank you note to the Ravens for not putting Derrick Henry in the game for this drive? “
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) December 22, 2025
Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy GO IN on the Ravens not playing Derrick Henry
Dungy: “If Steph Curry just hit 6 threes in a row, you don’t take him out”
Harrison: “If I’m coach Harbaugh and I got Derrick Henry, what are you saving him for? Next year?” pic.twitter.com/NtIdRBSXFR
— Kevin Oestreicher (@koestreicher34) December 22, 2025
Derrick Henry averaged over 7 yards per carry and the Ravens only gave him the ball 18 times in a must-win game where Lamar Jackson got hurt before halftime.
That’s unconscionable.

John Harbaugh doesn’t seem fazed:
John Harbaugh fielded multiple questions related to his job security yesterday:
“Coaching at any level is a day-to-day job. … I try to do the job, not try to keep the job. There’s no such thing as having a job, it’s just doing a job.”
On whether Steve Bisciotti has given… pic.twitter.com/4OF4SVVgFa
— Bobby Trosset (@bobbybaltim0re) December 23, 2025
Obviously, as he eluded to, Harbaugh will know what comes with being an NFL coach. He’ll understand that this season wasn’t good enough and his name will circulate in ‘hot seat’ conversations. For that reason, he’ll maintain his comfort and confidence in the position.
At the same time, Baltimore’s window is closing quickly, even if it is still open:
Saying a window is closed when you have Lamar & he’s 28 is hyperbole. I heard Ryan Clark suggest the same thing.
But with Mahomes’ injury, the conference will remain up for grabs for a bit of time. Brady’s Patriots went 10 yrs w/out going to a SB. Window is plenty open. #Ravens https://t.co/MEc7ydyGvu
— Dev Panchwagh (@devpanchwagh) December 23, 2025
But having talent and having a window doesn’t guarantee a Super Bowl win. We’ve seen it twice with Philadelphia (who fired Andy Reid, won with Doug Pederson, fired Pederson and won with Siriani), once with Denver (who fired John Fox before winning with Gary Kubiak), and once with Tampa Bay (who fired Bruce Arians before winning with Todd Bowles and, admittedly, Tom Brady). As Kurt Benkert and BMORE Reeta note, owners can’t accept mediocrity at the helm:
If Liam Coen, Ben Johnson, and Mike Vrabel don’t show you the importance of ripping off the bandaid on mediocre coaching, I don’t know what will.
QB’s NEED good coaching to reach their potential.
— Kurt Benkert (@KurtBenkert) December 23, 2025
The Ravens have 6 Pro Bowlers,
Which is tied for most players, and are fighting for their playoff lives. I definitely hold players accountable (yall hate me when i do it for 8) but this screams that this is bad coaching on this team, *to me*— BMORE Reeta (@theNFLchick) December 23, 2025
With fans complaining and clamoring, media swirling, and seasons stalling, I think Bisciotti has a choice to make – Find a new voice at Head Coach or accept a fed-up, dissatisfied fanbase.
All that to say, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
