Chicago Bears defensive end Darrell Taylor (52) reaches for Green Bay Packers

During the first half against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night, the Chicago Bears struggled to get pressure on quarterback Jordan Love.

Love skewered the defense, putting Green Bay up 21-3 at halftime. Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen made adjustments in the second half, adding extra bodies up front to get free rushers to Love, aiding Chicago in its comeback to beat the Packers 31-27 in the wild-card round at Soldier Field.

The pass rush has been a concern for the Bears all season. The defensive line has failed to win one-on-one matchups, allowing opposing offenses to gain a lot of yards. Chicago has had to rely on getting turnovers to win games.

With veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams coming into town on Sunday for the divisional round, the Bears could add a recently released defensive end to platoon their front seven.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Houston Texans released Darrell Taylor on Monday before their wild-card matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Taylor went on injured reserve for an ankle injury in November.

“The Texans are releasing pass-rusher Darrell Taylor, who just came off IR and is healthy now, sources say,” Rapoport posted on X. “He heads to waivers and can be claimed by a playoff team.”

Taylor has ties to the Seattle Seahawks and Bears. The Seahawks selected Taylor in the second round of the 2020 draft. He joined the Bears in 2024, playing in 11 games and registering 20 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

The former Tennessee Volunteers defender has recorded 126 tackles, 24.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles during his five-year NFL career.

Taylor wouldn’t project to be a starter for Chicago. But he could be of help as a substitution to generate pressure during the playoffs. After all, the Bears defense has struggled with time of possession in recent weeks.

Taylor appeared in four games for the Texans this season and created three tackles before going on injured reserve.
