Former Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace could become next Falcons GM

Former Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace could land with the Atlanta Falcons

Ryan Pace found a home with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 as a senior personnel executive after the Chicago Bears fired him at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

Pace has been working his way up the chain of command in Atlanta ever since. In 2023, he served as director of player personnel. In 2024, he became the vice president of football operations and player personnel.

On Sunday night, the Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot after an 8-9 campaign, despite finishing the season on a four-game winning streak.

So far, Pace still has his job, and he could be in line for a new promotion before the 2026 season.

Former NFL sports agent Ben Dogra hinted on his Facebook page that Falcons owner Arthur Blank could ask Pace to turn the direction of the franchise around.

“Not surprising ….it was an awful season,” Dogra wrote of the Falcons’ firing spree. “Mr. Arthur Blank is committed to winning and the past few seasons didn’t live up to expectations. He’s literally one of the better owners in the NFL.

“He’s on “pace” to fix things quickly.”

It would seem Pace will at least get an interview for the general manager position.

Former Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace could get a second chance

The Falcons have not made the postseason since the 2017 season.

Pace would be an interesting hire for the Falcons this offseason. It’s worth mentioning, Pace hired Matt Nagy away from the Kansas City Chiefs to be the Bears’ head coach in 2018. The offensive coordinator is a hot name in this hiring cycle.

Pace took over the Bears’ general manager gig in 2015. Chicago went 48-65 overall and 0-2 in the postseason under Pace.

Pace was responsible for hiring John Fox as a head coach in 2015. He traded up one spot with the San Francisco 49ers to draft Mitch Trubisky with the No. 2 pick. In 2021, Pace moved up nine spots to trade with the New York Giants for the right to draft Justin Fields with the No. 11 pick.

Maybe Pace would have better luck with a second chance. The Falcons appear set with Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback. But he’d need to nail the head coaching hire.
