Indiana seems willing to do what they can to get the Bears to the state. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has been cautious about using taxpayer money to help fund the stadium in Arlington Heights or Chicago.

Per Fox 32, a bill passed I the Indiana legislature that would finance the public stadium and allow the Bears to pay rent for the facility. The team is interested in building near Wolf Lake in Hammond, near the border of the Windy City.

With the Indiana idea gaining traction, Illinois lawmakers are making the Bears more of a priority in 2026. Pritzker is okay with funding infrastructure around the stadium Arlington Heights and allowing the Bears to negotiate property tax levels with the village.

“We’re in consistent conversation with the Chicago Bears,” Pritzker said. “The most important point I would make is we’re not going to do anything that’s bad for the taxpayers.

We are helping businesses build infrastructure…and other things that are available to any business that’s growing or building something new in the state of Illinois that’s putting people to work. Those are normal incentives, and that’s what I’d expect we’ll end up with for the Bears.”

Warren is steadfast that the Bears will pay for the stadium, but does not plan to start construction on the site at Arlington Heights until Illinois gives the team certainty that they can get the benefits they desire from cheap property taxes.

Subsidy or not, the Bears are asking for a handout from the state government, asking to pay cheaper rates at a time when citizens have to pay their tax bills while decided how to spend a smaller discretionary budget amid rampant inflation in the United States.
