Chicago Bears snubbed by potential Declan Doyle replacement as OC search continues
The Chicago Bears are in a position they did not think they would find themselves in this off-season. After former offensive coordinator Declan Doyle committed to returning to the Bears, he suddenly took the same position with the Baltimore Ravens.
It is easy to understand the reason why Doyle changed his mind so suddenly. In Baltimore, he can call his own offensive plays under defensive-minded head coach Jesse Minter. In Chicago, head coach Ben Johnson calls the offensive plays.
The challenge, though, is that many of the top offensive coordinator candidates are already off the board with it being so late in the hiring cycle. And as the Bears found out, other less-known candidates are not even interested in leaving their current jobs.
Chicago Bears turned down for interview by Troy Walters
Earlier today, it was revealed that Johnson and the Bears had reached out to the Cincinnati Bengals for permission to interview their wide receivers coach, Troy Walters, for their offensive coordinator job.
But while the Bengals granted Chicago permission to talk to Walters, the wide receivers coach himself declined to interview with the Bears:

Walters has become one of the best-known wide receivers coaches in the NFL due to his work with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. It appears that continuing to work with them was a more attractive option of Walters than coming to Chicago where he would not be able to call his own plays anyway.
