CM Punk pushing for future WWE event at iconic Chicago venue
WWE’s Elimination Chamber is taking over the United Center as the final stop before Wrestlemania is in the Windy City. As the WWE world descends on Chicago, it’ s showing that more events in professional wrestling need to take place in the city as they haven’t had one in a while.
On Chicago native is trying to get that to happen.
Ahead of his big win over Finn Balor on Saturday night, Chicago native CM Punk is reportedly attempting to bring more WWE events to Chicago. He’s also targeting an iconic venue while doing so.
CM Punk working with WWE to host event at Wrigley Field
Ahead of Elimination Chamber on Saturday, CM Punk appeared on Rock 95.5 to talk about the event. And potentially some future events in the Windy City. It was there that he mentioned the possibility of Wrigley Field and a WWE event. But it’s not so easy.
“Oh yes. I’ve had discussions with some executives, I’ll say. Yeah, they 100% want it. The hard thing for us is the scheduling and getting in. We need load in and load out day. Believe it or not, it’s probably a lot easier for Wrigley to book Green Day because they don’t have the man hours for load in. They are doing a stage, some sound, and that’s technically it. You need a little more time to roll our trucks in there and set things up because our production is that much more than a rock concert. We’ve been in discussions with it, it’s just going to make it so much easier to get it done if there is no baseball,” he said.
That’s very interesting.
It sounds like the two sides want to get it done but the logistics could be the issue as it’s hard to get it set up before and after. Punk didn’t mention which event but something like Summer Slam would be awesome. That would depend on the Cubs‘ schedule that Summer in terms of the logistics. But if WWE was smart, getting something done in the iconic venue would be awesome.
