Chicago Bears get B- after $30 million NFL free agency decision
The Chicago Bears have been active players in NFL Free Agency. In one of their early moves, they signed Seattle Seahawks safety Coby Bryant to a three-year, $40 million deal.
The Bears have also added Joe Thuney’s former NC State teammate, Garrett Bradbury of the New England Patriots. Chicago quickly filled out their hole at the center position as it sent a 2027 fifth-round pick for the veteran Bradbury. DJ Moore is also on the move as the Bears traded him to the Buffalo Bills for a future draft pick.
It’s only been a few days since the NFL free agency window opened, but the Bears have been working around the clock. They aim to surpass their NFC North title-winning season and win the elusive Super Bowl in 2026.
Chicago Bears solidify their defense in NFL free agency
The Bears have been inconsistent defensively last season. They relied heavily on their offense en route to their 11-6 record. Despite being 29th in total defense, they still led the league in takeaways.
Chicago added a key defensive piece this offseason. The Bears signed Devin Bush to a three-year deal worth $30 million. The addition of the former Cleveland Browns linebacker definitely bolsters their defense.
Because of his performance the past season and the Bears’ need for a defensive boost, Bleacher Report graded this move a B-. Bush played all 17 games for the Browns, and he helped Cleveland become one of the best defensive teams last year.
“The Bears’ newest linebacker should help bolster the defense while also aligning perfectly with its identity as a turnover-driven unit,” said the Bleacher Report analysis.
The former 2019 10th overall pick had a career year last year for the Browns. He had three interceptions, two forced fumbles and a career best 125 tackles. On top of that, Bush also gained 164 yards off of interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns.
Head coach Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen are surely cooking up ways to lift the Bears. Despite having their best finish since 2018, their ultimate goal is to win it all next season.
