Chicago Bears on notice for end of March to make Indiana stadium decision
The Chicago Bears appear to be making more progress with the state of Indiana to build their new stadium than with Illinois for the Arlington Heights location.

In response to Indiana making a strong bid, the Illinois General Assembly drafted legislation that would give the Bears a tax break in the ballpark of $100 million. Still, the bill faces intense scrutiny in a state that has affordability on the agenda this year.
On Thursday, Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia called next week a “big, big, big” week for Illinois’ chances of keeping the Bears in the state. State legislators will be back in Springfield to debate the tax break and other incentives for the team to move to Arlington Heights.
Tinaglia believes the Bears have a deadline of the end of March for Illinois to pass friendly legislation, or the team will head East to Indiana.
“Waiting until the end of May I think is a no go for the Bears,” Tinaglia said, via The Daily Herald. “They’ve already been through the (wringer) too many times.”
Bears CEO Kevin Warren and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker haven’t seen eye-to-eye through much of their negotiations this year.
Tinaglia claimed the Bears aren’t kidding around about moving to Indiana, though he believes the team wants to stay in Illinois–if they receive friendly legislation from Springfield.

Tinaglia hopes the Arlington Heights location would be an asset for neighboring communities in Illinois.
“We have worked really hard with Mayor (Lara) Sanoica in Rolling Meadows and Mayor Schwantz in Palatine, two really, really good people that have a lot of interest in this,” Tinaglia said. “Traffic is going to go through their towns. … We’ve included them with almost everything that we do because we want to be respectful of that.
“And when it comes time to really sit down and talk about brass tacks, they’ll have a seat. They’ll have an opportunity to weigh in on everything.”
In February, Warren released a statement saying the Bears were committed to doing the due diligence necessary to potentially finalize a deal in Indiana. That appears to have gotten the attention of local and state politicians in Illinois.
But most citizens don’t seem to want the Bears to get too friendly of a tax break. It remains to be seen if Illinois can give the Bears what they desire.
