Chicago White Sox receive worst-case scenario for Mike Vasil
The Chicago White Sox received unfortunate news, as right-hander Mike Vasil will miss the entire 2026 season. According to CHSN reporter Chuck Garfien, Vasil will undergo Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks.

Vasil got pulled from his last outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers after 3.2 innings with elbow discomfort.
The 26-year-old had an outstanding rookie season out of the White Sox bullpen, going 5-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 47 games (three starts), and had four saves and 82 strikeouts in 101.0 innings. The 25-year-old had been doing well this spring, going 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in four games. However, Vasil had eight walks and nine strikeouts in 11.0 innings.

The Chicago White Sox will need others to step up on the pitching staff
The White Sox have done well to limit the number of pitchers who have undergone Tommy John surgery, after multiple pitchers went under the knife last spring. Right-hander Drew Thorpe is one arm recovering from Tommy John surgery and is slowly making progress toward a return.
Thorpe’s return will help manager Will Venable decide who will be in the starting rotation. Vasil was used out of the bullpen last season, but started two games this spring.
Having seven games left before traveling to Milwaukee to play the Brewers, Vasil’s injury creates openings for others to make the team.
