Jets Re-Sign Jelani Woods, Tender Two Defensive Players
The New York Jets made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday as the team continues to shape its depth chart ahead of the new league year. According to an announcement from the New York Jets, the team has re-signed tight end Jelani Woods and exercised exclusive rights tenders on defensive tackle Jowon Briggs and linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball.
These moves ensure that all three players remain under team control heading into the 2026 season.
Jelani Woods
Woods joined the Jets during the 2025 season and provided depth at the tight end position. At 6’7” with rare athleticism for the position, Woods gives the Jets an intriguing option in the passing game and while he has yet to fully establish himself as a consistent contributor, the Jets clearly see value in keeping his size and athletic upside on the roster.
Jowon Briggs
On the defensive side, both Briggs and McCrary-Ball were tendered as exclusive rights free agents. That designation essentially guarantees they will remain with the Jets if they choose to sign the tender, as players with fewer than three accrued seasons cannot negotiate with other teams.
Briggs provided depth along the defensive line last season and has been viewed as a developmental interior lineman with good size and strength for the Jets defensive front.
Marcelino McCrary-Ball
McCrary-Ball contributed primarily on special teams and as a rotational linebacker. Players in those roles often fly under the radar, but maintaining depth at those positions is critical for teams heading into training camp.
The Jets will have several bigger roster decisions to make, starting next week when NFL free agency starts.
