Knee-Jerk Reactions: Ravens Sign EDGE Trey Hendrickson for 4 Years, $120M
Following last night’s incredible Maxx Crosby reversal, the Ravens pivoted and signed free agent EDGE Trey Hendrickson to a four-year deal.
Trey Hendrickson’s four-year deal worth up to $120 million with the Ravens includes $60 million fully guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus.
For 8, 10, 12 and 14 sacks per season, he also gets an additional $500,000 for each threshold he meets. https://t.co/jiVnKHK4UX

Wow it’s been a whirlwind the last few days. Hendrickson is a great “consolation prize” if you want to call him that. If we weren’t teased with Crosby we’d be ecstatic about this. I’m still pretty happy and understand these things can happen and Eric DeCosta is doing the best he can with the circumstances. Count me among those not blaming the Ravens for this debacle because we have no idea what they saw on the medical side. I’m now hearing that the Ravens were talking to Hendrickson all week and were looking to pair him up alongside Crosby. That dream is now gone but having those two first round picks back is nice.
While Hendrickson is 31, let’s not forget he led the league in sacks in ’24 with 17.5 and also had 17.5 sacks in ’23. I expect he will certainly be an improvement from what we had last year in the pass rush department.

Wow! What a whirlwind ~12 hours! To be honest with you, this is the move I thought the Ravens would explore because they desperately needed a top Edge rusher, and I did not think they would give up the picks for Maxx Crosby. Overall, I think this works out fine for the Ravens. They now have that draft capital back to either re-load through the draft or take a swing at another trade if the right player comes available. I know the optics look horrible for the Ravens here, but I firmly believe that the Ravens are a trusted franchise and the medical concerns (whatever they may be exactly) are legitimate. Smart pivot by EDC.
Rob Shields
Well, the morons are really out in full force. Before discussing the Hendrickson deal, you have to go back to the Crosby deal. The Ravens received bad news on the physical. The info they ascertained during the physical caused the Ravens to question if Crosby could be good long term. They were confident he would be there this year but it sounds like there was a more bone-on-bone type thing that could cause long term issues. If they traded a second rounder for him, they probably overlook it. But if you are going to pay a guy ~$30M a year and give up two first round picks you want to make sure what you are getting has more long term viability. People are calling for EDC’s head but if he made this deal and Crosby ended up being done in two years and it came out the Ravens knew this, people would be pissed that he agreed to the deal.
People are saying the Ravens knew this about his knee. That is not true. They knew he had surgery and that he wouldn’t “pass a physical” right now. What they didn’t know is that there was more to the knee injury than what they were told. How can you complain about that? The idea that they are upset because they were losing players is just dumb. The Ravens lose lots of players every year. There is a reason they lead the league in comp picks every year. They lost one player of importance, Linderbaum, and they tried to keep him with a 4/88 deal even after getting Crosby, so they had the money and they tried. They just weren’t going to be stupid like the Raiders were. The Ravens WANTED THIS DEAL TO HAPPEN! They didn’t want to lose Crosby. He was in the building yesterday. He was meeting with coaches They wanted that closer. So please, stop this nonsense. The issue is more about the process, the legal tampering and how the media jumps on things.
So now they pivot to Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson is not as good as Crosby. He is not as good against the run. However, he is the guy you pivot to. This team needed a pass rusher. Hendrickson missed 10 games last year but prior to that, he had been very durable and was one of the best pass rushers in the league. He will turn 32 in December, so he’s not young but that doesn’t mean he can’t be productive, like we saw with someone like KVN. He gets $60M guaranteed and $20M up front. I am guessing the Ravens will be able to get out of the deal after two years but we will see about that. And by the way, the Ravens were talking to Hendrickson while they thought the Crosby deal would happen, as reported by Adam Schefter and others. So this idea that the Ravens saw that Hendrickson was available and backed out is just dumb. Hendrickson was available the entire time this was happening. They were trying to get BOTH OF THEM! It’s not like Hendrickson was cut on Monday.
There is nothing shady here.
The Ravens still had the team need and they pivoted to the best option available.

I agree with Rob that there’s really nothing “shady” here. Did the Ravens know about Crosby’s meniscus issues? Yes. Did they know about…whatever else they found when they really kicked the tires? It appears they didn’t. And you can’t give up two first-round picks for damaged goods. The optics are absolutely awful, yes, but the Ravens had nothing to gain by trying to pull a fast one here. They create a(nother) PR nightmare for themselves AND miss out on the first two days of legal tampering for…what end, exactly? Someone has to explain that to me.
Pivoting directly to Hendrickson does give the conspiracists more air though, as my friend Glenn Clark points out.
I’m going to bite on this.
UNLESS the Ravens manage to pivot to Hendrickson, the “cold feet” thing is utterly nonsensical. This HURTS the Ravens, who have watched 9 players walk out while signing a marginal one.
Also, the other stuff is overblown… (1/2) https://t.co/0h33o22mB0

And while it’s indeed a PR nightmare, all that crap last night about how “teams and agents won’t deal with the Ravens now!” is immediately out the window as they immediately make a splash signing.
We’re going to be comparing the careers of Hendrickson and Crosby for the next few years, so just get used to that idea now.
As for Trey himself, this is a nice consolation prize. Granted, if the Crosby deal had never come about, we’d be pretty ecstatic with this signing, so let’s try to remind ourselves of that. He isn’t the complete player that Crosby is, but he can get after the passer, and the Ravens need all of that they can get.
Yes, Hendrickson will cancel out the Linderbaum loss for Comp pick purposes. The Ravens are still in line to get the max of 4 Comp picks, but the 3rd for Linderbaum is now gone. https://t.co/9xAx2M9NJI
