Billy Donovan has been one of the names who have been linked to the North Carolina Tar Heels coaching job. With the Chicago Bulls being in a position where they may decide to hit the reset button, there is a chance these are the final games of the Donovan tenure. One college basketball analyst believes this is the final hour for a decision to be made on both sides. Billy Donovan to North Carolina rumors heat up ahead of the national championship game
College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman appeared on ‘The Field of 68’ podcast and gave an update on the Donovan to North Carolina rumors.
“North Carolina is now solely focusing its efforts on Billy Donovan. They’re going to go hard after him, per sources. They expect to know more in the next 24 hours.”
Donovan is one of the top college basketball coaches, winning back-to-back national championships with the Florida Gators in 2006 and 2007. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times had an article come out during the weekend, highlighting how Donovan could be out as the Bulls coach. If that were to happen, this could give a lot of smoke to the North Carolina rumors. The Tar Heels have also been rumored to be involved with Arizona Wildcats coach Tommy Lloyd; however, he signed an extension with the program last week.
For Chicago, they could see a massive change in the front office this offseason to change things up. If that were to happen, Donovan could also be retained to head the program, but it seems like things may go down to how the Bulls play in the final handful of games. Last offseason, it was announced that Donovan signed a multiyear extension, so he is under contract with Chicago following this year. It will be intriguing to see if the Bulls are able to keep Donovan for next season.
