The Chicago Bears selected safety Dillon Thieneman with the No. 25 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, there’s some business to be done before Thieneman is locked in at Halas Hall.

He’s yet to sign his rookie contract with the Bears.

The Baltimore Ravens signed the No. 14 pick, offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane, on Thursday, per NFL Media. The Philadelphia Eagles signed the No. 19 pick, wide receiver Makai Lemon, to a deal that includes a $11.5 million signing bonus.

Thieneman, who is represented by Patrick Collins and Edward Berry of CAA Sports, is set to sign a four-year deal worth $19,512,698, per Spotrac. The amount of years of the deal and total value cannot be negotiated as it’s set in stone by the NFL before the draft.

However, players can negotiate the payment schedule of the signing bonus and offsets (or voiding) for salary guarantees.

The Chicago Bears have waited to sign rookies before

More News: Bears believed to be testing Caleb Williams

Chicago has had a few notable delays in signing rookies in recent years. Wide receiver Luther Burden III suffered a soft-tissue injury in rookie minicamp last May. He missed much of OTAs and didn’t wind up signing his rookie deal until July 18. All of Burden’s four-year deal ($10.965 million) was fully guaranteed.

In 2024, Caleb Williams had a few requests from the Bears. He wanted Chicago to agree not to use the franchise tag on him, which the team did not agree to. Williams reportedly wanted to see if he could be paid in a way that would give him a tax loophole, which was unsuccessful.

Williams did not sign his rookie deal until July 16 of 2024.

It didn’t take long for Colston Loveland, the No. 10 pick in 2025, to sign his rookie deal with the Bears. He signed on May 8.

Given the situation that happened with Burden, Thieneman would be wise to try and sign a deal by the time rookie minicamp starts for the Bears on May 8, as long as that salary is fully guaranteed.
