The Chicago Bears offensive line was expected to be a strength for a long time when general manager Ryan Poles brought in four starters during the 2025 offseason to go along with right tackle Darnell Wright.

Starting left tackle Ozzy Trapilo suffered a significant injury against the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round which could keep him off the field for most of the upcoming season. Center Drew Dalman threw the team for a loop when he announced his retirement.

The Bears addressed the center position by trading for Garrett Bradbury and drafting Logan Jones.

In a news conference at Halas Hall this week, Jones told reporters that he was informed by coaches that the offense head coach Ben Johnson runs can put more responsibility on a center than other offenses, which could be a concern early in his career.

Jones is excited for the challenge.

“After talking to the coaches, it feels like there’s a little bit more on the center’s plate here, which is exciting—the terminology and learning all that,” Jones said, via the Bears. “Being in a new setting, meeting new guys, being a center you have to be able to go up there, make a call and be confident; have the guys around you trust you.

“That’s something you have to earn. It’s like being a freshman again. You have to come in and earn the trust of everybody. It will be fun. I’m looking forward to it.”

The Bears will have Bradbury to start at center until Jones learns the system. The second-round pick will have time to learn the offense during OTAs and training camp.

The Bears drafted Jones to be their center of the future, but it might be too much to ask the rookie to have complete command of the job by Week 1.
