Chicago Sky add 2024 Most Improved Player in free agency
The Chicago Sky have made a significant number of changes to their roster throughout the offseason. With the team getting prepared for the 2026 WNBA Draft, they are filling up the roster. They have added an ascending defender, who has shown the ability to be a force on the court. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what the signing means for the Sky.
The Chicago Sky signed DiJonai Carrington
ESPN’s Alexa Philippou is reporting that Chicago has signed a one-year contract with DiJonai Carrington. Carrington has showcased her ability to take control of games and be a leader on the court. She won the 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player as well as part of the All-Defensive team. Last season, she split time between the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx and averaged 9.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Chicago has decided to really improve on the defensive side of the court, also trading for Rickea Jackson earlier on Sunday. Carrington provides some bench depth for the Sky as she can play either guard or forward when needed. Entering her age-28 season, she can provide some much-needed experience to a younger roster, helping players like Hailey Van Lith take that next step in her development.
Chicago has three picks in Monday’s WNBA Draft, so they are filling the roster and providing depth. With a player like Carrington, she can really fill a role that is needed on any team. General manager Jeff Pagliocca has done a lot of work reshaping the roster, so it will be intriguing to see what the team asks Carrington to do.
