Fever’s Aliyah Boston makes announcement after unfortunate offseason development

Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston

Aliyah Boston led the Indiana Fever to the playoffs last season. She earned her third consecutive All-Star nod and was named to the All-WNBA second team. The 6-foot-5 center averaged 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals in 44 regular-season games, and she showcased her efficiency by shooting 53.8%.

Boston carried the momentum into the Unrivaled campaign during the WNBA offseason. However, a right lower extremity injury during Phantom BC’s final regular-season matchup forced her to miss the entire postseason.

The former South Carolina Gamecocks star sat out the Fever’s preseason opener on Saturday against the New York Liberty. Despite its starting center in street clothes, the team won 109-91. Kelsey Mitchell and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the charge with 18 points each. Indiana took the lead at halftime and pulled away in the second half.

WNBA: Aliyah Boston addresses availability for Indiana Fever’s regular season

Reporters asked Boston on Tuesday about her injury. She shared that the setback is behind her and discussed what the team has been doing to prepare for the season’s grind.

“I’m feeling great,” Boston said. “We’re just doing what we got to do to get back to full swing. But yeah, I feel great.”

The 24-year-old also announced that she is fully ready to take the court once the regular season begins.

“Yeah, 100%,” Boston said.

The Fever play their season-opener on May 9 against the Dallas Wings.

Apart from missing the Unrivaled playoffs, Boston’s unfortunate offseason development also forced her to withdraw from the national team. Boston was unable to join Team USA for the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in March.

Indiana is back to full strength entering the 2026 campaign. Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are eager to pick up where they left off before they got hurt last year. The backcourt duo, along with Boston and Mitchell, is expected to lead the team to another deep playoff run.

The Fever added rookie guard Raven Johnson from the draft and acquired Monique Billings and Tyasha Harris in free agency. The team is one of the favorites to win it all, but health will be a key factor in its championship aspirations.
