Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark was locked in on Friday night as she led the Indiana Fever to a 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries. This marked Indiana’s third consecutive victory in its four-game home stand.

The Fever improved to 4-2 after Friday’s win. They now get five full days off before they take on the Valkyries in a road rematch at Chase Center on Thursday.

Clark led the charge for Indiana on Friday, scoring a team-high 22 points on 7-of-15 from the field. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year also added two rebounds, nine assists, a steal and one block, while also knocking down four triples in 32 minutes of action.

Caitlin Clark did not know she got hit with technical foul

Clark was so focused on the game that she missed a crucial call in the first half. After getting into it with Valkyries forward Janelle Salaun, Clark was hit with a technical foul right as the halftime buzzer sounded. Clark confronted Salaun, and the two had to be separated by teammates in a heated moment. Both players were assessed with technical fouls.

It wasn’t until after the game that Clark realized she had been called for a technical. She was genuinely surprised when a reporter brought up the incident during her postgame press conference.

“Oh, did I get a technical?” a confused Clark asked. “… Oh, no way.

“I mean, it just makes sense for the refs tonight, so I’m not surprised. Wow. I could have gotten ejected. I probably should have been a little safer in the second half.”

Clark was involved in another incident later in the game. Her illegal screen was upgraded to a Flagrant 1. The two-time All-Star realized in hindsight that she could have gotten in some real trouble after the break.

“Well, I guess I have some fines coming my way. And a flagrant too? Wow,” she continued. “The refs were interesting, but I’m not going to say anything else because I probably already have about $1,000 worth of fines coming my way.

“But honestly, I was just trying to get the rebound, and I didn’t even know I got a technical foul. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.”

Clark hit the nail on the head. She is indeed facing a $1,000 fine for her actions during Friday’s win. The technical foul and the Flagrant 1 carry $500 fines apiece.
