Caleb Williams vs. Drake Maye: NFL hypes Week 7 matchup
Two of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2024 NFL Draft will square off in a Week 7 matchup at Soldier Field. Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears will face Drake Maye and the New England Patriots on October 22.
Both Williams and Maye entered the league after emerging as leading quarterbacks in college football. The former USC sensation was selected No. 1 overall by the Bears. The North Carolina standout was taken third overall by the Patriots.
Williams and Maye clashed for the first time during Week 10 of the 2024 season at Soldier Field. In their rookie matchup, Maye’s New England defeated Williams’ Chicago, 19–3.
There was no face-off in 2025. Maye led New England on a deep playoff run that ended with a heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LX.
Chicago and New England are in different conferences — the NFC and AFC. As such, these two teams only play each other every few years.
NFL hypes Caleb Williams vs. Drake Maye Week 7 showdown
The upcoming Week 7 matchup is the second showdown between Williams and Maye. The NFL hyped up the game with an Instagram announcement on Friday.
The post features two videos highlighting the most explosive plays from each quarterback’s previous games. It also includes a split image of the two QBs in uniform, with text reading, “Drake Maye & Caleb Williams set to face off on TNF in Week 7 🔥.”
“Oh, it’s going down in Chi-Town 😤,” the league added in its caption.

Football fans flooded the comments section with mixed reactions to the highly anticipated quarterback duel in Chicago.
“2 of the best young QBs in the game 🔥,” a user wrote.
“Gonna be a game-of-the-year candidate,” another commented.

Tale of the tape
The upcoming primetime matchup is an important game for both quarterbacks in their third NFL seasons. Both players face big expectations as they try to revive iconic franchises that haven’t won a Super Bowl in years.
Ironically, the Bears’ only Super Bowl title came at the Patriots’ expense in 1985. Last season, New England came close to ending its drought dating back to 2019 but was defeated by the Seattle Seahawks.
After struggling in their rookie seasons, Williams and Maye both improved. They got better at avoiding sacks and gaining yards on the ground. They can also throw on the run and make plays off script, making them difficult for opposing teams to stop.
The two, who have known each other since high school, have a highly competitive on-field rivalry. But off the field, they are friends who respect one another’s incredible talent and playmaking skills.
While Maye produced better numbers last season, Williams has already done enough to prove he’s the man for the Bears. With both quarterbacks expected to face off for years to come, comparisons could ultimately come down to Super Bowl wins.
