Chicago Bears linked to $12 million pass rusher to pair opposite Montez Sweat
General Manager Ryan Poles checked a big box by adding Dillon Thieneman to the safety room during the NFL Draft, but the Chicago Bears still have one major need to address if the franchise hopes to lift coordinator Dennis Allen’s defense to the next level in 2026.
While Montez Sweat produced one of the most disruptive seasons of his career, in his first season playing under Allen in 2025, posting a personal-best 10 sacks and a career-high 36 total tackles, the Bears’ pass rush lacked consistent teeth.
That could change, if Chicago is able to land one of the top remaining edge rushers during the latter stages of free agency before training camp kicks off this summer.
Chicago Bears urged to sign Haason Reddick to pair with Montez Sweat
Over at USA TODAY, analyst Tyler Dragon argues that veteran Haason Reddick could be a perfect fit for Allen’s system, and the kind of player who helps elevate not just Sweat but the impact of the talent across the defense.
“Reddick’s production has taken a precipitous decline since four straight double-digit sack seasons from 2020 to 2023,” Dragon writes for USA TODAY. “He’ll turn 32 in September but his 34 pressures last year would’ve ranked fourth on the Bears in 2025. Chicago needs another edge rusher opposite Montez Sweat and didn’t address their pass rush need in the draft. Chicago had the NFC’s worst pass rush win rate in 2025, per ESPN, and can use a vet like Reddick to provide a boost,”
One of the biggest unknowns surrounding Reddick, who just played out a one-year contract worth $12 million in 2025, is how much of his production decline is due to age and how much because he was stuck in terrible situations.
In Chicago, Reddick would be thrown into a legitimate Super Bowl chase and thrust into starter-caliber reps opposite Sweat.
With 61.5 career sacks, through his first nine seasons, for the right price, Reddick would absolutely be worth kicking the tires on for the Bears.
