Chicago Bears looked to trade up in NFL Draft for this player
The Chicago Bears had an intriguing 2026 NFL Draft as they did not fill some of the holes many people were expecting. However, things move quickly and a lot of decisions are made in a small amount of time. One of the things general manager Ryan Poles and the team had to do was decide if they wanted to trade picks. One report has that the team considered doing so with one of their premier picks. Let’s take a closer look at the report and what it means going forward.
The Chicago Bears almost traded up in the second round of the NFL Draft

In an article discussing all 32 teams’ draft classes, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned that the Bears were interested in trading up. Below is a snippet of what he wrote:
“The Bears eyed a trade-up in the second round but chose to stand pat. They were high on Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood, who went No. 37 to the Giants. Chicago figured its No. 25 pick, Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman, would be gone in the top 20, so perhaps Hood would’ve been a viable fallback option there if Thieneman was off the board.”
This goes to show that the Bears were intrigued by significantly improving the secondary throughout the first few rounds of the draft. Chicago would add another cornerback instead of Hood as they selected Texas corner Malik Muhammad in the fourth round.
According to the NFL Draft trade value chart, the 37th pick was worth 530 points. In order for the Giants to get that same value back in a trade, Chicago would have needed to trade the 57th and 69th picks to get to that value (575 points). There are other ways that trade could have been made, including future picks, but ultimately, the Giants liked Hood more. Chicago could have tried to trade ahead of the 37th pick, as the value of the two picks mentioned would have been enough for pick 34, but they ultimately decided not to make that trade.
The Bears have revamped their secondary this offseason, but it will be intriguing to see if they made the right decision by not making a trade to acquire Hood.
