Chicago Bears may have failed Caleb Williams in one enormous area

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams enjoyed a breakout season in 2025, leading his team to an NFC North division title and a Wild Card Round playoff win over the Green Bay Packers while flashing remarkable poise and a flare for the dramatic in the process.

Williams threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 58.1 percent of his passes and posting a 90.1 passer rating. He also rushed for 388 yards and three scores.

Sure, his throwing accuracy could use some work, but overall, it was hard not to be impressed by what Williams did during his sophomore campaign, especially in the second half of games where the former No. 1 overall pick turned into Superman.

As a result, there is palpable excitement surrounding Williams heading into 2026, and deservedly do. After all, the Bears won 11 games last season and are still improving. But has Chicago failed Williams in one major area this offseason?

Have the Chicago Bears put enough weapons around Caleb Williams?

Last year, the Bears had an embarrassment of riches around Williams, with a receiving corps that consisted of D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III as well as having Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland at tight end.

Unfortunately, Williams was unable to form a connection with Moore, and Kmet continued to fall further and further into obscurity. The former was traded to the Buffalo Bills while Kmet has constantly remained in trade speculation, and it still wouldn’t be shocking if he were dealt at some point this summer. It’s also important to note that Chicago lost Olamide Zacchaeus to free agency.

The Bears didn’t really do anything to replace Moore or Zacchaeus on the open market, which is concerning. Their solution was to select LSU wide receiver Zavion Thomas in the third round of the NFL Draft, but Thomas managed just 488 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. He is also almost exclusively a slot receiver.

Is this really enough for Williams?

There is no question Chicago lacks depth at receiver, and considering Odunze missed significant time late last season due to a foot injury, that lack of insurance is scary. Especially going into what will be a pivotal third year for Williams.

Burden will be under significant pressure to take a big step forward, and Williams will have to be far more dependable in putting the ball in the right places.

We’ll see what happens, but it’s fair to wonder if the Bears might regret not being more aggressive in supplying their quarterback with more help in 2026.
