Chicago Bears may have screwed Caleb Williams in one critical area

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is preparing to enter a pivotal third NFL season following quite a breakthrough in Year 2.

Williams led the Bears to 11 wins, an NFC North division title and a Wild Card Round playoff win over the hated rival Green Bay Packers last season. That actually marked Chicago’s first postseason victory since January 2011.

As such, expectations are high for the former No. 1 overall pick heading into 2026, but what should we actually expect from Williams?

While Williams displayed impressive progress as a whole in 2025, there is no question that there are some areas in which he needs to improve. His throwing accuracy, for example, is a major sticking point, as he completed just 58.1 percent of his passes during his sophomore campaign.

But have the Bears actually put Williams in the best position to succeed next fall?

Last year, Williams had an arsenal of weapons at his disposal with an incredibly deep receiving corps. That has changed a bit this offseason.

Chicago traded away D.J. Moore and lost Olamide Zacchaeus to free agency, subtracting a couple of key weapons from its employ. The Bears signed Kalif Raymond and selected Zavion Thomas in the third round of the NFL Draft, but Raymond isn’t exactly a Moore replacement, and Thomas seemed like a bit of a reach on Day 2.

So, have the Bears placed Williams in an uncomfortable situation?

Yes, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III remain on the roster, but both players missed time due to injuries last season. What if one of them — or both, God forbid — gets injured? Does Chicago have the necessary depth to step up and remedy the issue?

There are still some good receivers available in free agency, but the Bears don’t appear that interested in adding any of them. They do have a strong tight end room with Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet and rookie Sam Roush, but it would be nice if Williams had a better overall selection of wide outs.

You would think the Bears would have ensured Williams had the weapons he needed going into Year 3, but as of right now, there is no doubt that Chicago’s wide receiver room is a question mark, and it could hurt the 24-year-old.
