Bleacher Report names the Chicago Blackhawks as a potential Connor McDavid landing spot
Bleacher Report’s Lyle Fitzsimmons wrote an article highlighting some potential landing spots for Connor McDavid if he were to be traded this offseason. Buckle up, Blackhawks fans, as they were listed as a possible home for the three-time Hart Trophy winner. Below is a snippet of what Fitzsimmons wrote about Chicago:
“The Blackhawks are loaded with cap space and prospects, and it’s hard to imagine just how much league boss Gary Bettman would relish seeing the game’s best player in an Original Six market alongside a young star like Connor McDavid. But they’re not nearly as close to contending as the Sharks, having finished 31st of 32 teams in 2025-26, which won’t help entice McDavid if he’s in on the would-be destination decision.”
The Blackhawks still can be a massive destination for McDavid, as they will have a major 1-2 punch on the front line with him and Connor Bedard. They have a projected $40.2 million in cap space for the 2026-27 season, so they can easily absorb the $12.5 million hit on McDavid’s contract, as well as signing Bedard as a restricted free agent this summer. In terms of enticing Edmonton, the Blackhawks have that too. They have four first-round picks and five second-round picks in the next two drafts.
It takes two to make a trade happen, but if the Oilers are ready to build for the future, Chicago can land a superstar. It will be intriguing to see if general manager Kyle Davidson wants to swim in those waters.
