Chicago Bulls pursuing Boston Celtics assistant general manager per report
The Chicago Bulls completed their first step of a very important offseason when they hired Bryson Graham to head the front office. That move happened on Monday as the franchise is moving in a new direction. Now, they are turning their attention to more hires.
Chicago has more positions to fill in that front office as well as finding a new head coach. With the NBA Draft Lottery next week and the actual draft just over a month away, the Bulls want to move quickly. And it appears as if they have a target for the assistant general manager role.
The latest reports suggest that the Bulls are looking at another Eastern Conference team to fill that need for the assistant general manager spot.
Chicago Bulls targeting Boston’s Dave Lewin
With Graham being introduced on Wednesday, Chicago is expected to act fast with other hires. In Joe Cowley’s latest for the Chicago Sun-Times, he mentions Boston’s Dave Lewin as someone who could fill the assistant spot:
A person who could help Graham and that process along? Well, the Bulls already interviewed him as well. While Boston Celtics assistant GM Dave Lewin did not get the Bulls’ EVP job, that doesn’t mean the Bulls are done pursuing him. There will be a push to get him in the front office, and if not him, “we need to find someone very much like Dave Lewin.”
That’s how impressive his presentation was from an analytics and strategy standpoint.
Chicago did interview Lewin, so they are familiar with his plan. He’s been in Boston for nearly a decade, starting as a scout and working his way up the chain.
Currently, he’s behind both Brad Stevens and Mike Zarren so this move would be an upgrade for him if the Bulls choose to go that route. While the Celtics blew a lead this year in the playoffs, they found success a few years back winning it all. They also had another NBA Finals appearance, despite losing to the Golden State Warriors.
Lewin appears to be a top candidate and someone who could be a beneficial addition.
