Chicago Bulls zeroing in on front office hire per report
The next few weeks will be important for the Chicago Bulls in terms of what direction the franchise will be heading in. Chicago needs to hire some front office roles as well as a new head coach ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.
With the lottery and draft combine approaching, the Bulls need to have their hires lined up as it’s a crucial time for the franchise. And now, it sounds like they are zeroing in on their target.
Chicago Bulls zeroing in on Timberwolves GM Matt Lloyd
It was reported earlier in the week that the Bulls had moved forward with the next round of interviews. They cut the list of finalists down to just four and were set to do in-person interviews. Among the finalists is Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd.
Now, it appears as if he’s the favorite.
In Joe Cowley’s latest piece in the Chicago Sun-Times, he reports that Lloyd could be named the Bulls’ president of basketball operations job:
A source told the Sun-Times that although there was no clear-cut favorite for the job as of last Monday, Lloyd has taken the lead and could be named to the position in the next several days. That makes sense considering his long stint with the Bulls under former basketball operations chief John Paxson, who remains with the organization as an adviser and is said to be a strong Lloyd supporter.
Cowley has been on top of things this offseason for the Bulls. He was correct in all of his reporting in terms of the front office shakeup as well as the Billy Donovan situation. So he’s to be trusted with this.
Lloyd got his start in Chicago and has served a number of jobs. He’s worked in scouting as well as media relations, moving into a front office role in Minnesota. The experience is there.
The other thing to note in this situation is that if Lloyd is hired, he would likely bring in Micah Nori as head coach. Nori is currently an assistant in Minnesota.
This situation should escalate even more this week. There’s a need to get this done and move on to the next phase of the offseason.
