Chicago White Sox All-Star suffers injury in Triple-A
The Chicago White Sox have been playing well over the last couple of weeks. However, they have been waiting for one of their pitchers to return to the big leagues. They are going to need to wait a little while as he suffered an injury. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what this means for the White Sox going forward.
Shane Smith suffers an injury in Triple-A Charlotte
The White Sox announced that starting pitcher Shane Smith has suffered a right rotator cuff strain. There is no official timetable for a return, but he will miss a couple of weeks and will land on the injured list. Smith has struggled this season in the majors as he made three starts and was 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in 8.1 innings before being sent to Triple-A Charlotte. He has still be struggling to find his form where he was an All-Star in 202t, but has been pitching to a 5.27 ERA in Charlotte.
This could be a help for Smith in more ways than one. He gets the opportunity to heal up his injury as well as reset his mind. The 26-year-old has struggled with his command since being back in Triple-A, issuing eight walks to six strikeouts over four starts. Chicago has been hoping Smith would correct his woes and return to the big leagues, but it will be some time until that happens. It will be intriguing to see what the severity of the strain is and how long until we see Smith back on the mound. In the meantime, the White Sox have been getting great performances from their starting pitching. The team is seventh in starter ERA, 11th in WHIP, and sixth in HR/9.
Chicago would love to have Smith back on the South Side, but it all depends on how he looks post-rotator cuff injury.
