Chicago White Sox fall significantly in latest power rankings
The Chicago White Sox are 26-26 on the season through their first 52 games. To say that very few foresaw that they would be where they currently are is an understatement. After three straight 100+ loss seasons, fans only wanted to see some kind of improvement. What they are seeing, though, is a team that is competing for a spot in the postseason.
Chicago’s record is currently good enough for second place in the American League Central Division. It is also good enough for them to be firmly in the hunt for a Wild Card spot.
However, the White Sox have also hit a bit of a skid, one that has seen them drop in the power rankings.
The Chicago White Sox fall five spots in the power rankings
Unfortunately, the White Sox have dropped each of their past two series. While they have avoided getting swept, they still lost two out of three each time.
After being ranked 12th by Bleacher Report in last week’s power rankings, they now sit at #17:
“The White Sox were trending up with three straight series wins heading into last week, but their struggles on the road continued with a pair of series losses to drop them to 12-16 away from Rate Field. Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery have combined for 42 home runs, which is more than the Rays (41), Red Sox (38) and Brewers (34) entire rosters have hit.”
Clearly, the White Sox have a problem playing on the road, as evident by their 12-16 record in away games. Davis Martin has been a stud, but the rest of Chicago’s starting rotation has, by in large, been underwhelming.
Fortunately, they have three exciting power hitters in Munetaka Murakami, Colson Montgomery, and Miguel Vargas. If they can keep slugging, Chicago will continue to be relevant.
