Chicago White Sox, Munetaka Murakami

Don’t look now, but here come the Chicago White Sox. After defeating the Los Angeles Angels 6-0 on Monday night, they improved to 17-18 on the season, and are now third place in the American League Central Division. While being under .500 is never ideal, the fact is that the two teams that lead the division are 18-18, which means the White Sox are just 0.5 games out of first place.

Indeed, a lot has been going right for Chicago over the last couple of weeks. Their pitching staff has been on fire and have emerged as one of the best in the American League. That being said, the buzz around the White Sox began with Munetaka Murakami, and he continues to draw attention to the team.

On Monday night, Murakami hit his 14th home run of the season, putting him in a tie for the Major League lead with New York Yankees star Aaron Judge. While Murakami hitting home runs has been a regular occurrence, he did not have any other extra base hits on the season. That is, until Monday:

With is double in the top of the sixth inning against Los Angeles, Murakami had his first extra base hit of the year that was not a home run.

Through 35 games, he is hitting .240/377/.584 with 14 home runs and 28 RBI. He has also walked 28 times and struck out 50 times.

Of his 30 hits this season, 15 of them have been singles. He now has 14 home runs and one double.
