Chicago White Sox sluggers continue to mash their way into history
Chicago White Sox first baseman, Munetaka Murakami, has been a sensation since he signed his two-year ($34 million) contract this offseason. Murakami’s power has been an eye-opener, as he hit his major league-leading 13th home run against the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Murakami’s home run in the second inning on Friday extended his streak of all his extra-base hits being home runs. This is the longest such streak since 1900, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs. In 113 at-bats Murakami has no doubles or triples.

Munetaka Murakami’s power has paired nicely with Chicago White Sox infielder Colson Montgomery
The power displayed by Murakami has been so valuable for the White Sox, as shortstop Colson Montgomery has started to find his power stroke. Montgomery, who is second on the White Sox in home runs (nine), hit one of his own in the 8-2 over the Padres.

Montgomery’s blast came three innings later in the top of the fifth inning. According to Langs, this was the seventh time this season that Montgomery and Murakami have homered in a game making it the most by a duo through 35 games in MLB history. The White Sox have played 32 games.
This broke a three-way tie between the Colorado Rockies in 1994 (Andres Galarraga – Ellis Burks), the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980 (Mike Schmidt – Greg Luzinski) and the New York Yankees in 1956 (Mickey Mantle – Yogi Berra).

Both Murakami’s and Montgomery’s power should help the White Sox compete for the division. Two games under .500 (15-17) and a 1.5 game back of the Cleveland Guardians of the American League Central, the White Sox have a chance thanks to their sluggers.
