Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) and guard Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham dealt with injuries last season. They were limited to 13 and 30 games, respectively, and missed the WNBA playoffs. However, the Indiana Fever’s backcourt duo has fully recovered and is eager to make up for lost time in the 2026 campaign.

Clark and Cunningham played in all three preseason games, including Saturday’s matchup against the Nigerian national team. Indiana dominated throughout the game and won 105-57. Fever head coach Stephanie White distributed the playing time and experimented with different combinations.

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year produced 12 points, four assists and two 3-pointers in 13 minutes, while Cunningham played 12 minutes and recorded eight points and three assists.

Indiana ended its preseason with a 2-1 record and will enter the regular season with momentum on its side.

WNBA: Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark connects with Sophie Cunningham for highlight play

Clark controlled the tempo when she was on the court. She showcased her shooting prowess and set up her teammates for easy layups. With 8:56 left in the second quarter, she dished a nifty pass to Cunningham for a transition basket, demonstrating her elite court vision.

The team posted the play on Instagram along with its reaction.

“insane CC pass alert 🚨 Caitlin Clark splits three defenders to find Sophie Cunningham for the layup,” the Fever wrote.

Indiana led 70-29 at halftime, and both Clark and Cunningham watched the second half from the bench. Despite limited playing time, they still showed their on-court chemistry, giving the home fans plenty to cheer for.

The duo, along with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, is expected to lead the Fever to another deep playoff run or potentially win the title. The team bolstered its roster in the offseason by adding veterans Monique Billings and Tyasha Harris, as well as rookie Raven Johnson. Indiana will open its 2026 season on Saturday at home against the Dallas Wings.
