One Indiana Fever guard has path back to team after getting cut

Indiana Fever forward Natasha Howard (6), guard Sophie Cunningham (8), forward Aliyah Boston (7), guard Aari McDonald (2) and guard Kelsey Mitchell (0)

The Indiana Fever are finalizing their roster ahead of the 2026 WNBA season opener against the Dallas Wings on Saturday.

Indiana’s line-up sits at 12 after the team waived guards Megan McConnell, Kayana Traylor and Jessica Timmons on Wednesday.

All three played for head coach Stephanie White during the preseason. It appears they did not make the cut for a Fever squad looking to build on their 24-20 finish in 2025.

The door may not be fully closed for all three players, though. Indianapolis Star reporter Chloe Peterson shared on X that a reunion remains possible.

“The Indiana Fever announce they have waived Megan McConnell, Kayana Traylor, and Jessica Timmons,” she wrote. “The Fever roster is now down to 12, plus one dev spot taken by Justine Pissott.

“Indiana will likely sign one of the three waived to a dev spot after they clear waivers.”

The Fever are reportedly eyeing one of the three waived guards for their remaining development contract spot.

Waived Indiana Fever player could return to team

A development contract permits a player to appear in up to 12 games and take part in all team practices and activities.

The decision may come down to what Indiana wants to prioritize on the court. McConnell brings a blue-collar, gritty style to the table. The Duquesne product is a hustle player with pesky on-ball defense.

Timmons offers the most upside of the three. The rookie averaged 5.3 points per game across three preseason contests for the Fever. Traylor brings the most experience from the group. She averaged 7.3 points per game in the Fever’s preseason.

The front office has a decision to make. Every roster spot counts as Indiana sets its sights on a stronger 2026 campaign.
