White Sox should make this Yankees trade ASAP amid surprising start

The Chicago White Sox are surging right now, having won six of their last eight games to improve to 17-19 and insert themselves smack dab in the middle of the AL Central race.

Considering how poor this division is, the White Sox absolutely do stand a chance of coming out on top, as it might not even take 90 wins to do so.

Because Chicago is playing better than anyone expected and actually is a playoff contender, its trade deadline plans may have changed rather significantly. Heading into 2026, the entire world expected the White Sox to be full-throttle sellers, but that might not be the case anymore.

That does not mean, however, that Chicago won’t be moving any players at all, and there is one piece the White Sox absolutely should trade while they still can: closer Seranthony Dominguez, and Ryan Shea of Fantasy Sports on SI has named the New York Yankees as a potential match.

Chicago White Sox should trade with the New York Yankees

The White Sox signed Dominguez back in late January, a big addition after the the right-hander put together a strong 2025 campaign between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.

Last season, Dominguez logged a 3.16 ERA while allowing just 44 hits and racking up 79 strikeouts over 62.2 innings of work, his best showing since his rookie campaign with the Philadelphia Phillies back in 2018.

But while Dominguez is a flamethrower with obvious strikeout stuff, he has some glaring holes in his game that should make Chicago very wary. Actually, the Sox have already seen them.

Through 15 appearances this season, Dominguez has posted a 3.95 ERA and 5.92 FIP, thanks much in part to his lack of command. The 31-year-old has already walked nine batters across 13.2 frames, and last year, he issued 36 free passes and led the league with 12 wild pitches.

Recently, Dominguez has harnessed his control, having walked just one batter over his last five outings, but how long will that last? The Dominican native has historically had issues with locating his pitches, so it seems hard to imagine he just magically found the secret sauce nine years into his MLB tenure.

But now that Dominguez is pitching well, the White Sox should trade him as soon as possible. There are plenty of teams in need of bullpen help, and that includes the Yankees. Shea proposed a mock deal in which Chicago would send Dominguez to New York in exchange for prospects Rory Fox (a right-handed pitcher) and Jace Avina (an outfielder).

If the White Sox can get that type of return for Dominguez, they should absolutely pull the trigger and turn over closer responsibilities to someone else in their pen.
