WNBA facing backlash over Caitlin Clark decision in Fever win
Caitlin Clark returned to action on Friday night to lead the Indiana Fever to their third straight win. After sitting out Wednesday’s victory over the Portland Fire due to a back injury, the two-time All-Star was back on the court two days later.
Clark paced the Fever with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting, to go along with two rebounds, nine assists, a steal, one block and four triples in 32 minutes of action. Thanks in part to Clark’s strong play, Indiana defeated Golden State, 90-82, improving to 4-2 on the season.
Clark, however, had a couple of contentious moments during the game. At one point, the 24-year-old was called for a Flagrant 1 foul for a hit on Valkyries guard Veronica Burton.
Fans not happy with Caitlin Clark flagrant call
Clark was called for an offensive foul in the fourth quarter after an illegal screen. The referees reviewed the play and decided to upgrade the call to a Flagrant 1 foul.
The fans on social media were not at all pleased by the decision. They are now calling out the WNBA for the quality of officiating during the Fever-Valkyries game.

“Total ref show tonight and, yes, they hate Clark,” a comment on X read.
“W refs are clueless. Giving Valks a practice free throw in the 4th quarter of a close game is straight [expletive] amateur hour. Insane,” another said.
“They tried their best for Fever to lose,” accused a user.
“The refs in the wnba are [expletive] brutal THEY GAVE HER AN EXTRA FREE THROW??? DAWG WHO HIRES THESE PPL 😭😭😭” a reaction read.
“How can the refs upgrade that to a flagrant foul????? Total BS!!!” said another.
“Worst refs this season,” declared a fan.
This wasn’t Clark’s lone incident from the game. Earlier in the contest, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star was whistled for a techical foul after a heated altercation with Valkyries forward Janelle Salaun. It was Clark’s second tech of the season, which will result in a $500 fine.
