The Indiana Fever faced the Dallas Wings on Thursday for their second preseason matchup. Caitlin Clark led the team with 18 points and four assists despite playing only 16 minutes. Makayla Timpson added 11 points, while Kelsey Mitchell scored 10.

However, it wasn’t enough for Indiana to secure a victory as they lost 95-80. Dallas scored 37 points in the second quarter and outscored Indiana by 19. It proved to be the difference as the Wings didn’t surrender the lead until the final buzzer.

Fever head coach Stephanie White distributed the minutes by fielding 12 players and used the game to experiment with her rotation. The team shifts its focus to its season opener on May 9 against the Wings.

WNBA: Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers receives preseason game honor against Indiana Fever

Paige Bueckers picked up where she left off last season and torched the Fever on Thursday. She scored a team-high 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting, along with three rebounds and four three-pointers. The 2025 Rookie of the Year did her damage in only 20 minutes as the coaches monitored her playing time in the preseason matchup.

The WNBA named Bueckers the game’s top performer, announcing the news on Instagram.

“No easing in 😮‍💨 Paige Bueckers set the tone early in the @dallaswings preseason dub with all 20 of her points coming in the first half!” the league wrote.

The 24-year-old aims to lead Dallas to a playoff appearance in the upcoming season after finishing tied for the league’s worst record in 2025. The franchise bolstered its roster by signing veterans Odyssey Sims, Alanna Smith and Jessica Shepard. The Wings also selected Azzi Fudd at No. 1 in the draft.

However, it won’t be easy as the competition is stacked. A low seed entering the postseason would set up a series against one of the league’s powerhouses, potentially including a healthy Indiana team with Clark leading its charge.
