Caitlin Clark directly addresses altercation with ex-Fever teammate DeWanna Bonner

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22)

Caitlin Clark had the opportunity to be teammates with WNBA veteran DeWanna Bonner last season with the Indiana Fever. However, their time together was short-lived.

After signing as a free agent with the Fever ahead of the 2025 season, Bonner left the team after just four months. She stepped away from the team after just nine games played due to personal reasons. Indiana ultimately decided to waive her contract later that month, allowing the six-time All-Star to eventually sign with her former team, the Phoenix Mercury.

Bonner returned to her old stomping ground on Wednesday as the Fever hosted the Mercury. There was clearly no love lost between the 38-year-old and her former teammates.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark speaks out on DeWanna Bonner incident

Clark and Bonner were involved in a heated incident in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s game. It all started when the two got tangled up as Bonner was attempting to post up Clark.

The Fever superstar was called for a foul, and the two exchanged words on the court. Clark was then hit with a technical foul for clapping and instigating the altercation. Other players got involved, ultimately resulting in multiple technical fouls.

Clark was asked about the incident during her postgame press conference, and the former Iowa Hawkeyes star was quick to play down the heated moment.

“I thought it was just an arm entanglement, I guess, and I thought it was fine. Whatever,” Clark said. “I don’t think initially there were technicals handed out for that, I guess. I think it was maybe the scuffle that ensued between both teams after that.

“Honestly, I don’t remember hearing anything directly or specific words.”

Clark went on to shout out teammates Myisha Hines-Allen for stepping in amid the scuffle. Hines-Allen was one of the players who got a technical foul for her role in the incident. She was ejected from the game shortly after for receiving a second tech.

“I appreciate [Hines-Allen] having my back,” she continued. “It’s nice to have a teammate like that who’s always going to go to battle for their teammates.”

Clark will face Bonner and the Mercury again on Wednesday. If Monday’s heated contest was any indication, then there could be fireworks again at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Wednesday’s rematch.
